The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Northeast Zone, has commended President Bola Tinubu for his administration’s focus on youth development while reaffirming its dedication to unity, inclusion, and progress within the Council.
In a communique issued on September 12, 2025, following a stakeholders’ meeting in Damaturu, Yobe State, chaired by Comrade Yusuf Ibn Tom, the zone urged NYCN stakeholders nationwide to resolve differences and collaborate for a transparent and unifying national congress.
The resolutions praised President Tinubu’s youth-focused initiatives, led by Minister of Youth Development Comrade Olawande Emmanuel Ayodele, and endorsed the outcomes of the National Management Committee meeting held on August 7, 2025, in Abuja.
The zone also welcomed the Southern Nigeria NYCN stakeholders’ recognition that the NYCN presidency is zoned to the Northern region for the upcoming National Elective Congress.
The stakeholders adopted the 2012 NYCN Constitution as the guiding framework for the congress and supported a single four-year tenure for all national executive positions to enhance accountability and leadership succession.
The zone unanimously selected Comrade Shettima Umar as its consensus candidate for National President, Cosmos Danladi for Assistant Secretary HQ, and Gambo Abubakar for Program Officer in the 2025 elective congress, scheduled for October 7, 2025, in Abuja.
The NYCN Northeast Zone expressed readiness to actively participate in the congress and thanked the Northeast state governors and Commissioners of Youth Development for their support in youth empowerment.
The zone reiterated its commitment to working with all stakeholders for a successful congress and extended gratitude to youth leaders and organizations across the Northeast for their dedication to advancing Nigerian youth.
