GOMBE – All is now set for a befitting reception in Gombe to honour the recently elected National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Alhassan Yahaya Abdullahi, by the Gombe State council of the union.
Alhassan Yahya, the immediate past Deputy National President of the Union and a two-term Gombe State Council Chairman, was elected during the union’s 8th triennial delegates conferences held in Owerri, Imo State in November, 2024.
This was part of resolution NUJ: Gombe to hold reception for its new Presidents reached by members of the State council of the union after it’s congress meeting, Chaired by Farouk Mu’azu Gombe, held at the old newsroom of the Gombe Media Corporation (GMC).
In a communiqué issued after the meeting by the Communiqué drafting committee Chaired by Williams Àttah, Abigail Kolo, Secretary and Muhammad Rabilu Jibrin, which was shared to Journalists by the Council’s Secretary, Shuaibu Umar, the reception is billed for Saturday 16th February, 2025.
It said, the reception is to celebrate the victory of Yahaya during the union’s last delegate conference. Since NUJ came into existence, this is the first time the entire northeast subregion is producing the NUJ President.
The Gombe State council pledged its loyalty as well as reiterated it’s confidence in the leadership of Comrade Alhassan Yahya since assuming duty as president of the union.
The Journalists used the occasion to commend the interest shown by the Gombe State Government in completing the state NUJ secretariat.
It particularly praised the administration for creating an enabling environment for journalists in the state to practice without any hindrances.
The council also commended the Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya led administration over the complete digitisation of the state media outfits (Gombe Media Corporation’s Radio and TV) as well as the transformation taking place in different sectors of the State.
It mentioned achievements in Education, Health, Agriculture, Security, Environment, Water provision, road construction, civil service, social services among many others as hallmark of the administration in the last six years.
It said, “Equally worthy of commendation is the tireless and selfless leadership of the Director General of the Gombe Media Corporation, Mallam Ibrahim Isah, who ensured the installation of state-of-the-art equipment in the stations which are now accessable through the satellite,” it stated.
It reminded members of the need to pay their checkoff dues and professional fees between January and June this year. It encouraged all practising journalists to take this issue with all the seriousness it deserves.
