From Olanrewaju Lawal, Birnin Kebbi
Members of the Central Working Committee (CWC) of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) have visited the Sir Ahmadu Bello International Airport, Birnin Kebbi, to inspect physical developments executed by the state government over the years.
The CWC members are in Birnin Kebbi for their maiden meeting after the national delegates’ conference, which took place in November last year in Owerri, Imo State, during which national officers were elected.
The meeting will start tomorrow at Saffar Hotel and is expected to wind up on Thursday.
Led by the NUJ National President, Alhassan Yahaya, the CWC members were received at the Sultan Abubakar International Airport, Sokoto, by the National Vice President, Tukur Dutsinmari, and some members of the state executive council.
On their arrival in Birnin Kebbi, they were driven straight to the airport, where the Commissioner of Information and Culture, Yakubu Ahmed BK, and the Permanent Secretary in charge of the airport, Habibu Sabi Kamba, received them and took them round the fuel dump site, which was constructed by the Dr. Nasir Idris administration to enhance air transportation.
The Permanent Secretary informed them that the construction of the fuel dump was necessitated by the need to satisfy requirements to enable Hajj operations and ease local air transportation.
He explained that the airport has now become a hub where international and local aircraft passing by land to refuel and move on.
The visiting journalists expressed delight at the development and hoped to be availed of other key achievements of the Kebbi State government. They will visit some key infrastructure in the state capital tomorrow, while their meeting takes place later in the evening into the night.
