NSIB Investigates Abuja-Kaduna Train Derailment – Independent Newspaper Nigeria

The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) said it has commenced an investigation into the derailment involving a Kaduna-bound train service from Abuja on Tuesday .

The derailment occured at approximately 11:09 A.M, at KM 49 between Kubwa Station and Asham Station.

A statement by Mrs. Bimbo Olawumi Oladeji, Director, Public Affairs and Family Assistance, NSIB, said that current information available to the bureau indicated that six persons sustained injuries in the accident without recorded fatalities.

The statement hinted that a go-team had been deployed to the site to gather evidence, engage relevant stakeholders, and commence investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident.

The statement added: “The bureau sympathises with those injured and extends its support to all passengers affected. 

“The investigation will focus on identifying the direct and underlying factors that led to the derailment, with the aim of issuing safety recommendations to prevent a recurrence.”

Capt. Alex Badeh Jr., the Director-General of NSIB, expressed sympathy with all who sustained injuries in the accident.

He re-emphasised that the bureau had deployed investigators to the site to uncover the root cause of accident. 

He insisted that the bureau’s commitment was to ensure safer rail transport for Nigerians through a transparent and independent investigation.

Badeh added that the NSIB would provide updates as the investigation progresses.
