The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has pledged to strengthen its partnership with the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) to enhance security coordination and service delivery across Abuja.
This was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by Monica Ojobi, Public Relations Officer of the NSCDC FCT Command.
Olusola Odumosu, FCT Commandant of the NSCDC, made this known when he received Sharifat Ronke Ibrahim, the FCT Comptroller of Immigration, during a courtesy and familiarisation visit to his office.
Odumosu said the Corps would continue to work closely with the Immigration Service, noting that both agencies, though operating under distinct mandates, share a common goal of protecting lives, property, and national borders.
“I resumed office to meet a very strong relationship with the Immigration Service. We both operate under the same ministry, and while our duties differ, our goal is the same, the safety and security of our nation. It is my desire that this synergy not only continues but grows stronger,” Odumosu stated.
He reiterated the Corps’ commitment to its statutory responsibilities, which include protecting critical national assets and infrastructure, licensing and supervising private security companies, managing disasters, and safeguarding the agricultural sector through its Agro-Rangers unit.
Odumosu said the Command has maintained a harmonious working relationship with other security agencies within the territory, adding that collaboration, rather than rivalry, remains key to achieving national security objectives.
“Since I assumed office, we have enjoyed excellent cooperation with the Police, DSS, Correctional Service, Fire Service and others. I believe with you coming on board, we will build on this existing partnership,” he added.
The NSCDC boss called for continued intelligence sharing between both agencies to improve operational efficiency and prevent security breaches within the FCT.
He also praised the Immigration Service for its digital transformation drive, saying the initiative reflects a new level of professionalism and responsiveness to citizens’ needs.
“We are ready to collaborate with your agency in all areas that will boost security in the FCT. For instance, whenever we apprehend foreign nationals involved in illegal mining, we promptly hand them over to Immigration for proper profiling to verify their visa status,” Odumosu said.

In her remarks, Ibrahim commended the NSCDC Commandant for sustaining strong inter-agency cooperation, which she described as vital for effective service delivery.
She revealed that the Immigration Service had fully adopted digital processes for passport applications, allowing Nigerians to apply from their mobile phones and, soon, perform biometric verification remotely.
“We have gone digital in our operations. Nigerians can now apply for passports from their phones, and with time, biometric capture will also be done remotely. We look forward to sustaining this collaboration for better results,” she said.
