NSCDC Handover 4 Suspects To NAPTIP For Child Trafficking In Ogun

In connection with suspected child trafficking, the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP)
has received four suspects from the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Ogun State command.

Suspects include the 16-year-old survivor, her mother, 39-year-old Sakirat Aremu, 35-year-old Ogunlaja Ronke, and 50-year-old Mary Samuel.

The child’s trafficking to Libya was authorized by the mother.

The survivor was stopped in Sokoto state while being smuggled to Libya, according to NSCDC spokesman Dyke Ogbonnaya.

He said, “A case of child trafficking of a survivor and minor, female, 16 years, name withheld was transferred to the National Agency for Prohibition
and Traffick in Persons and Other Related Offences Commission (NAPTIP).

“The various involvements and roles of the suspects, Sakirat Aremu, the mother of the survivor and whose consent was also given concerning her being trafficked with the support of Ogunlaja Ronke, female, 35 years and Mary Samuel, female, 50 years amongst others.

“They have been appropriately documented and handed over to NAPTIP for further investigation while the State Command continues to follow up with the matter.”
