The Kano State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has apprehended two individuals, Muhammad Sarari, 43, and Madaki Zaharaddeen, 32, for allegedly posing as NSCDC officers.

The suspects, who reside in Goron Dutse, Dala Local Government, and Hotoro, Nassarawa Local Government, were caught while attempting to extort money from a senior executive of a prominent television station in Kano.

NSCDC Kano Command’s spokesperson, SC Ibrahim Idris Abdullahi, revealed that the suspects had been targeting ministries and government agencies, using coercion to demand payments from officials.

Their fraudulent activities came to light when they tried to pressure the media executive into giving them cash under false pretenses.

Officers from the NSCDC Tarauni divisional office arrested them and transferred them to the state headquarters for further questioning.

During interrogation, the suspects admitted to the crime. One of them was found with a counterfeit NSCDC identity card and innerwear featuring the agency’s logo.

SC Abdullahi confirmed that the suspects would be charged with offenses including impersonation, conspiracy, extortion, and intimidation.

The NSCDC has concluded its investigation, and the case is set for prosecution in court.
