NSCDC Arrests Six Men In Gombe For Exhuming Corpse, Harvesting Eyes For Rituals


The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Gombe State has apprehended six men over alleged involvement in exhuming the body of an 85-year-old man and harvesting his eyes for ritual purposes in Kwami Local Government Area.

According to Daily Post, the command’s spokesperson, SC Buhari Sa’ad, revealed that the suspects dug up the grave of the late Mallam Manu Wanzam, who had been buried on September 9 at the Gadam North Cemetery.

According to NSCDC investigations, the group was led by 39-year-old Kawuji Sarki, a father of six, who confessed that they were contracted by one Aliyu Chindo to remove the deceased’s eyes for ₦500,000 each.

Sarki further disclosed that Chindo disappeared with the body parts after collecting them, leaving the group unpaid before security operatives nabbed them.

The other suspects were identified as Adamu Umar, 22; Umar Jibrin Aboki, 21; Abdullahi Umar Dauda, 17; Muhammed Isa Chindo, 28; and Manu Sale, 23. Authorities confirmed that one more accomplice remains at large.

Condemning the act, the Gombe State Commandant of the NSCDC, Jibrin Idris, described the incident as “barbaric” and assured that the suspects would be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.
