Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) giants, Enyimba FC have dismissed claims that the club reduced players’ salaries by 50 per cent following their 1-0 defeat to Wikki Tourists at home on Sunday.
The loss marked the People’s Elephant’s second home defeat of the 2025-2026 NPFL season.
Following the disappointing result, technical adviser Stanley Eguma and two of his assistants were suspended, sparking speculation about the team’s internal stability. In response, the nine-time NPFL champions issued a statement on Wednesday to set the record straight.
“Enyimba FC wishes to categorically state that at no time did the management approve, initiate, or implement any salary reduction. The club remains fully committed to maintaining the highest standards of professionalism in its relationship with players and staff,” the statement read.
Enyimba will be back on the pitch this weekend for an away NPFL fixture against Katsina United.
In other NPFL action, Barau FC are optimistic after their 2-0 victory over Rangers at Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano. Joseph Kemin and Muhammad Umar scored the goals that secured all three points for the Maliya Boys.
Technical adviser Ladan Bosso praised his squad’s determination and said the win could spark more positive results for the team.
“On our preparatory stage of the game, before we left for Katsina, where we picked a point, the players resolved to record a three-game unbeaten run, and we are on the right track to achieve that,” Bosso said.
He added, “For the victory over Rangers, it’s a sign of good things to come because if you look at the log we have moved out of the relegation zone. We hope that the victory will give us a platform to continue to move forward.”
Barau FC currently sit 16th in the NPFL table with 13 points.
