The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a notorious human trafficker in Uyo, the state capital.
The identity of the suspect has not been publicly disclosed. The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Timfon John, revealed the arrest in a statement made available to journalists in Uyo on Sunday.
John stated that operatives of the command apprehended a 47-year-old male from Edo State on August 26 at approximately 9:30 a.m.

According to John, the arrest followed credible intelligence indicating that the suspect frequently traveled to Uyo to traffic young women to various African countries for prostitution and other illegal activities.
“Acting on credible information, a surveillance team located and apprehended the suspect at a hotel on Ring Road 3, Uyo. During the arrest, police rescued two victims,” John said.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect, who was previously deported from another African country, had trafficked two young women — one to Libya in July and another to Burkina Faso on August 18.
John added that the suspect has confessed to the crimes, admitting that he received N50,000 per victim.
“The parents of the trafficked victims have been contacted to provide statements,” John stated.
The suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue, with authorities working to identify and apprehend his accomplices.
