Nothing special – Amorim downplays Rashford goals, says ‘Hojlund scored too’

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has downplayed Marcus Rashford’s brace for Barcelona in the Champions League, suggesting it was nothing out of the ordinary.

Rashford scored both goals in Barcelona’s 2-1 win over Newcastle United on Wednesday night, marking his first strikes since joining the Spanish giants on loan from Old Trafford.

Amorim, however, shifted the focus to Rasmus Hojlund, another United loanee, who also opened his account for Napoli last weekend in a Serie A victory over Fiorentina.

The Portuguese coach argued that the same recognition given to Rashford should extend to Hojlund.

‘Hojlund scored Too’

Asked directly about Rashford’s goals at St James’ Park, Amorim responded: “Rasmus scored, I am happy for Rasmus also. It is the same thing with him guys. You are so tough on Rasmus but he scored also, so let’s notice that.”

Meanwhile, Hojlund failed to score in Napoli’s Champions League clash on Thursday as Antonio Conte’s side fell 2-0 to Manchester City.

Despite the setback, Amorim stressed that the young forward deserves credit for his progress in Italy, particularly after early criticism of his form.

Focus on Chelsea clash

Speaking during his prematch briefing ahead of United’s home game against Chelsea on Saturday, Amorim declined to be drawn into extended comparisons between Rashford and Hojlund.

Instead, he emphasized the importance of returning to winning ways after a difficult start to the Premier League campaign.

Chelsea’s visit to Old Trafford will also mark Alejandro Garnacho’s first return since his summer move to Stamford Bridge.

The Argentine winger, who was sold in the last transfer window, has been tipped by some to prove United wrong.

Garnacho sale not a concern

Amorim dismissed suggestions that Garnacho’s sale could haunt United in the long term. “I am not concerned about that – I just want to win games,” he said.
