The Arewa Youth Movement (AYM) has petitioned the Inspector General of Police (IGP), urging him to take decisive action against politicians allegedly connected to banditry and violent crimes in Northern Nigeria.
In a press briefing held in Abuja, AYM spokesperson, Comrade Yahaya Muhammed Garba, called for a thorough investigation into the activities of certain political figures. He emphasized that public officials must be held accountable for their actions, regardless of their social or political standing.
Garba lamented that the worsening insecurity in the North has been compounded by the alleged complicity of highly placed individuals who provide support to criminal networks. According to him, some politicians maintain ties with notorious bandit leaders, arrange medical treatment for injured fighters, and instigate violence in parts of Bauchi and Plateau States.

He further commended federal security initiatives currently in place but insisted that their impact is being undermined by politicians who allegedly shield criminals.
“Reports of his moving wounded bandits for medical treatment and inciting violence in Tafawa Balewa, as well as his links to violent incidents in Plateau State, are utterly unacceptable,” Garba said.
The AYM spokesperson reaffirmed the group’s commitment to promoting justice, peace, and security across Northern communities. He urged security agencies to restore public confidence through swift and transparent action.
While praising the sacrifices of security operatives, Garba highlighted the severe challenges they face, including being outnumbered and under-resourced. “Their morale is tested daily, and it is our responsibility to support them in their noble mission to protect our citizens,” he added.
Speaking further, he raised concern over the growing menace of kidnapping for ransom, describing it as a lucrative business for criminal groups. Garba noted that the trend has instilled widespread fear, leaving families in constant anxiety over the possibility of abduction.
