North Korea has deployed additional troops to Russia, though the exact size of the contingent remains unclear, according to South Korean media reports on Thursday.
Citing the country’s National Intelligence Service (NIS), the reports indicate that the newly sent forces have been dispatched to Russia’s Kursk region, where Russian troops are engaged in battles against Ukrainian forces that have crossed the border into western Russia.
The NIS has previously stated that over 11,000 North Korean soldiers have been deployed to Russia to assist in the war against Ukraine. Western experts and Ukrainian officials have also claimed that Russian forces have used North Korean weapons in the conflict.
Despite these reports, North Korea has not officially acknowledged its military involvement in support of Russia. Meanwhile, the spokesperson’s office at the NIS did not respond to calls seeking further clarification on the latest deployment.
