North Korea’s state media has strongly criticised US President Donald Trump’s proposal to take control of Gaza and relocate its Palestinian residents, calling it an act of “robbery” and accusing Washington of trampling on the rights of other nations.
A commentary published by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) on Wednesday denounced Trump’s plan, claiming it was destroying the slim hopes of Palestinians for safety and peace. The report described global outrage over the proposal, stating, “The world is now boiling like a porridge pot over the US’ bombshell declaration.”
Although the KCNA did not mention Trump by name, the criticism was directed at his recent announcement that the United States intended to remove Gaza’s residents and transform the war-torn region into what he called a “Riviera of the Middle East.”
The KCNA commentary did not stop at Gaza, also criticising the Trump administration for its past controversial proposals, including taking control of the Panama Canal, purchasing Greenland, and even renaming the “Gulf of Mexico” as the “Gulf of America.”
“The US should awaken from its anachronistic daydream and stop at once the act of encroaching upon the dignity and sovereignty of other countries and nations,” the KCNA stated, branding the US a “ferocious robber.”
North Korea has been vocal in its condemnation of Israel’s actions in Gaza, repeatedly blaming Tel Aviv for the ongoing bloodshed and labelling the US as an “accomplice.” Pyongyang often takes opposing stances on global conflicts, positioning itself against Western influence in international affairs.
Despite his past diplomatic outreach to North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, Trump has received little recent acknowledgment from Pyongyang. While he has expressed interest in rekindling talks with Kim, North Korean state media has largely ignored his second-term presidency, choosing instead to focus on what it perceives as continued threats from Washington and its allies.
As tensions over Gaza continue to rise, North Korea’s latest remarks add to the mounting international criticism of US foreign policy in the region.
