“None Of My Aides Earn Less Than ₦1m Monthly” — Gov Umo Eno

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has clarified the remuneration of his political aides, stating that none of them earns less than ₦1 million monthly.

Governor Eno made the disclosure on Thursday, during a Town Square Meeting with the people of Ikono and Ini Federal Constituency at Ibiaku Ntok Okpo.

He expressed displeasure over public comments suggesting that his aides receive only a “stipend.”

“Let it be clear: no Personal Assistant to the Governor earns less than one million naira monthly,” he said.

“It is misleading to describe such as a stipend. That’s substantial income, and I expect transparency and accountability from all political appointees.”

The Governor praised Blessed Essien, his PA on Protocol, who recently used part of his salary to construct a borehole for his community.

In recognition of the gesture, Eno announced Essien’s promotion to Special Assistant on Public Works.

“I received a brochure about a PA who used part of his earnings to construct and reticulate a borehole in his village.

“That’s commendable. But others with similar opportunities are not engaging their communities meaningfully,” Eno stated.

He further directed the Secretary to the State Government to compile and publish a list of all political appointees, categorized by local government areas, in a national newspaper for public accountability.

Encouraging constituents to hold their representatives to account, the Governor urged: “Ask your PAs, your SAs, SSAs, and Commissioners what have they done for your communities?”

Eno concluded that performance and responsibility remain the benchmark for recognition in his administration, stressing that Essien’s promotion was a direct result of “visible impact.”
