Nollywood star Shawn Faqua, wife make history with Nigeria’s first-ever train wedding

Nollywood actor Shawn Faqua and his bride, Sharon Ifunanya Maduekwe, have made history by hosting Nigeria’s first-ever wedding aboard a moving train.

The groundbreaking ceremony took place on Sunday along the Lagos–Ibadan Standard Gauge Railway, where a train coach at the Mobolaji Johnson Train Station was transformed into a stunning, mobile wedding venue.

Departing from the Alagomeji-Yaba Station in Lagos, the couple, accompanied by family, friends, and well-wishers, exchanged vows as the train glided along the tracks—symbolizing a love journey in motion.

Following their traditional wedding, the couple’s white ceremony redefined creativity.

The train’s carriage, adorned with flowers and filled with music and laughter, set the perfect scene for their heartfelt exchange of vows, rings, and a kiss that drew cheers from guests, including Nollywood star Stan Nze.

The idea, inspired by the bride, an event planner by professionwas hailed as a masterstroke of innovation and artistry.

Viral clips from the wedding showed the bridal party joyfully boarding the train, adding spontaneity and excitement to the celebration.

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) applauded the couple’s ingenuity in a celebratory post on X (formerly Twitter):

“From lovebirds to locomotives, we’re keeping things on track. History made — the first-ever wedding on a moving train in Nigeria. Proof that the journey can be just as beautiful as the destination.”

Beyond its romantic allure, the Faquas’ union has been celebrated as a symbol of creativity, modernity, and national pride, showcasing how love and innovation can beautifully intertwine.
