Nollywood producers to receive additional earnings on streaming platform

At least, four Nollywood producers are to receive additional earnings on top of their minimum guarantee and licensing fees, under a new payout structure unveiled by Circuits, Nigeria’s largest virtual cinema and TVoD streaming platform.

The additions, which are tied to the films’ performance on the platform, will continue for as long as the titles generate revenue, according to Circuits’ Chief Operating Officer, Imade Bibowei-Osuobeni.

She said that the initiative, which marks a significant shift in how African filmmakers are valued in the digital space, is designed to create a fairer and more sustainable reward system for content creators.

“This model, where films keep earning for their creators, is rare in Africa’s streaming landscape. Circuits’ move sets a precedent for how producers should be compensated in the digital age. It’s a sign of a maturing industry that rewards creativity, protects intellectual property, and fuels reinvestment in African storytelling,” she said.

She added that since June 2025, producers have had access to back-end data to verify sales reports, in addition to receiving monthly analytics since the platform’s inception.

The Circuits COO said the rapid growth of the platform which launched just eight months ago, is proof of the demand for innovative digital distribution.

“By combining content protection with transparent earnings, we are hoping to strengthen the global reach of African stories while ensuring that producers reap continuous financial benefits,” she said.
