No Vacancy For Deputy Governor Position In Benue – Gov Alia


Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has dismissed speculations suggesting he plans to replace his Deputy, Dr. Sam Ode, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking on Monday, at the swearing-in ceremony of new Commissioners at the Government House, Makurdi, Governor Alia firmly stated that there was no truth to the rumours.

He said, “There is no vacancy for any Deputy Governor in 2027.

I have a Deputy Governor who understands governance, who is people-oriented. He is always with the people and for the people, one who is very cerebral.”

In recent weeks, political circles in Benue have been rife with speculations that Governor Alia was allegedly shopping for a replacement deputy ahead of the next election cycle.

The governor, however, stressed that such rumours were baseless, reiterating his confidence in Dr. Ode’s capacity and loyalty.

“My deputy is very capable. He has all the capacity it takes to perform his functions,” Alia emphasized.

“He understands what is good for Benue and that is what he is doing exactly. So if anybody is eating and dreaming Deputy, there is no vacancy.”

Governor Alia further highlighted the cordial relationship he shares with Dr. Ode, describing it as both professional and personal.

“I love him, I enjoy working with him. I enjoy a personal relationship with him, so for those wishing the negativity, they won’t have their way.”
