Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has warned that his administration will not tolerate enclaves or settlements that block security agencies from carrying out their duties, insisting that every part of Abuja must remain fully accessible for law enforcement operations.
Speaking during a live media chat on Friday in Abuja, Wike said allowing any area to operate outside the law would undermine national security and fuel crime within the capital city.
“You cannot create a place where police are not supposed to be,” Wike said. “If you do that, you are opening the floodgate for insecurity. One of the reasons we are fighting this is because of the end-discriminating protocol no area should be exempted.”
The Minister stressed that the FCT Administration will continue pushing for a safe, law-abiding and inclusive Federal Capital, where all residents enjoy equal protection under the law.
“You are welcome here, you have shelter and accommodation,” he said. “But what we don’t want to see is any community refusing security oversight. That is unacceptable.”
Wike noted that misunderstandings around enforcement actions often arise due to misinformation, pledging continued transparency and public engagement through regular updates on FCTA activities.
“If you don’t inform the public, they will complain that nobody knows what is happening. Now that we are informing them, some are asking why,” he said. “Our job is to tell the people what we are doing and we will do it.”
He further emphasized that reforms to restore Abuja’s masterplan, address illegal developments and improve safety may not always be popular, but remain necessary for the long-term security and development of the capital.
“Some may not like the decisions, but we are not here to do what is convenient. We are here to do what is right for the FCT,” Wike stated.
