NNPP expels Kofa, President Tinubu ally in Kano

The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has expelled Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa, a member of the House of Representatives from Kano State and known ally of President Bola Tinubu.

The expulsion was announced on Saturday by the Kano State chapter of the party, which accused Kofa of anti-party activities and failure to meet his financial obligations.

Speaking at a press briefing at the NNPP secretariat in Kano, the state chairman, Hashim Sulaiman Dungurawa, said Kofa’s repeated public criticisms of the party and its leadership justified the action.

Dungurawa described the lawmaker as a “weak politician” whose electoral success came only through the Kwankwasiyya movement and the NNPP platform.

“If he was truly strong politically, he would have won his election under the APC, but he failed. It was when he joined NNPP through Kwankwasiyya that he became a House of Reps member. Now he is deceiving himself thinking he is strong,” Dungurawa said.

He added that a reconciliation committee had earlier engaged Kofa following his interview on Channels Television, but his subsequent media appearances showed that he had “crossed the line.”

“Instead of dialogue, he went further to work against our interest, openly declaring loyalty outside the party. That is why we expelled him. He has no value to add,” he said.

The chairman further accused Kofa of defaulting in the payment of mandatory party dues, warning that NNPP would take legal action to recover the funds.

“We will drag him to court to recover what he owes the party. It is a constitutional requirement for every member to pay dues, but he has consistently failed to do so,” Dungurawa said.

On speculations that Kofa may return to the APC, he insisted such a move would not affect NNPP’s strength, stressing that “politics is about groups and coalitions,” and that the Kwankwasiyya movement remains firmly behind its leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
