NNPP Expels Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa Over Alleged Anti-Party Activities In Kano

The Kano State Chapter of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has expelled Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa, the House of Representatives member representing Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency, over alleged anti-party activities and failure to meet his financial obligations to the party.

Announcing the decision at a press briefing in Kano on Saturday, the Chairman of the NNPP in the state, Hashim Sulaiman Dungurawa, said the lawmaker’s expulsion followed his repeated public criticism of the party and its leadership.

According to Daily Trust, the development comes less than 24 hours after Jibrin hinted that it should not surprise anyone if he decides to dump the NNPP, stressing that he is old enough to independently determine what is politically best for him.

Reacting to the controversy, Dungurawa described Jibrin as a “weak politician” whose political success was only possible because of the Kwankwasiyya movement and the NNPP platform.

“If he was truly strong politically, he would have won his election under the APC, but he failed. It was when he joined NNPP through Kwankwasiyya that he became a House of Reps member. Now he is deceiving himself thinking he is strong,” the NNPP chairman stated.

Dungurawa revealed that a reconciliation committee had initially been set up to engage Jibrin following his appearance on Channels Television, but said his subsequent media comments showed he had “crossed the line.”

“Instead of dialogue, he went further to work against our interest, openly declaring loyalty outside the party. That is why we expelled him. He has no value to add,” he explained.

The NNPP chairman also accused Jibrin of failing to pay mandatory party dues, insisting that the party would take legal action to recover the funds.

“We will drag him to court to recover what he owes the party. It is a constitutional requirement for every member to pay dues, but he has consistently failed to do so,” Dungurawa declared.

On speculations that Jibrin may return to the All Progressives Congress (APC), the chairman stressed that such a move would not weaken the NNPP, maintaining that politics thrives on strong groups and coalitions.

“Kwankwasiyya remains solidly behind its leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and our strength is not tied to any individual,” he added.
