President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday received Governor Alex Otti of Abia State at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
While the official agenda of the meeting was not disclosed, sources suggest it centered on ongoing efforts to secure the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), who is currently serving a life sentence.
Governor Otti’s Prison Visit
The meeting comes after Governor Otti’s recent visit to Kanu at Sokoto Prison.
The governor was accompanied by Kanu’s younger brother, Emmanuel Kanu, the Abia State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Ikechukwu Uwanna (SAN), and his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma.
Officials from the Sokoto State Government were also present.
During the visit, Otti emphasized his administration’s commitment to exploring all legal and political avenues to secure Kanu’s release.
“While Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is free to appeal his conviction, I’m happy to inform you that I have activated, and will continue to work on, the already agreed strategy until his freedom is secured,” Otti said through his media aide.
High-Level Engagement
Tuesday’s meeting with President Tinubu is widely seen as part of Governor Otti’s ongoing strategy to engage federal authorities and advance dialogue on Kanu’s case.
