“Nnamdi Kanu Acted On Emotions, Free Him” – Okon Lagos Appeals To FG

Nollywood star Ime Bishop Umoh, popularly known as Okon Lagos, has appealed to the Federal Government to free the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.

Speaking on a recent episode of The Clarity Zone podcast, posted on X on Tuesday, the actor stressed that Kanu’s release would promote peace and foster national reconciliation, even if it does not align strictly with legal arguments.

“I am one million percent of the opinion that Nnamdi Kanu should be freed. Free him. It may not make legal sense depending on what they have claimed, that the evidences that have been put in the fore of the ‘crimes’ he has committed,” Umoh said.

He added: “It [freeing Kanu] doesn’t need to make legal sense, but it makes moral common sense.”

During the conversation, his host Nedu Wazobia asked him to clarify what he meant by “moral common sense.”

Umoh explained: “It is morally right. Of course, he is a human being and he took emotional decisions, and emotional decisions are not right decisions. He felt that his people were being marginalised and he started agitating for Biafra’s secession.”

Kanu was first arrested in 2015 on charges including treasonable felony and terrorism and later fled the country after being granted bail. He was rearrested in 2021 in Kenya and extradited to Nigeria, where he remains detained pending trial.

His legal team has argued that some charges against him lack legal merit, emphasizing that his activities were largely motivated by a desire for self-determination rather than an intent to overthrow the government.
