NLC issues ultimatum to IBEDC, PIPLL over alleged sack of 3,000

1 day ago 32

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Thursday issued an ultimatum to the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) and its outsourcing company (PIPLL) over the alleged dismissal of over 3,000 employees.

In a statement by the Oyo state NLC secretary, Comrade, Adebayo Aribatise, the union gave IBEDC up to Monday, March 10, 2025 to honour the agreement made to the labour union and the federal government on the dismissed employees.

NLC stated that the union will not hesitate to picket the IBEDC offices in Oyo state from Monday, March 10, 2025, if there is no compliance to honour the agreement reached with the labour union and the federal government.

The NLC said the planned picketing was aimed at compelling IBEDC and PIPLL to act in good faith and honour the agreement with the NLC.

It lamented that the 7 day ultimatum issued by the federal government through the Ministry of Labour has elapsed.

“The development has raised concerns among the sacked workers of IBEDC and the NLC, which has been advocating for their rights. The NLC is aware that a crucial meeting is scheduled to hold between IBEDC and PIPLL, and it expects a positive outcome,” it said.

NLC added, “The union, however, is prepared to take decisive action if the agreement reached between the federal government, Oyo state NLC, and PIPLL is not honoured. Any deviation from the agreement will be met with an immediate response.

“NLC will not tolerate any form of injustice against workers and it  remains committed to ensuring that their rights are upheld.”
