The nine surveyors kidnapped at a site in Ilu-Abo, Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State, have been released after a ransom payment of N20 million.
Pastor Ajibade Owolanke, brother to the Ejemikin of Akure, High Chief Oluwole Omotayo, confirmed the development on Wednesday.
According to Owolanke, the surveyors were freed Tuesday night and are currently in Akure, the state capital.
Their release also came after some residents of Ondo State on Tuesday staged a mass protest in Akure the state capital over their abduction.
Protesters, who were mostly women, went to the gate of the Governor’s office in Alagbaka Akure, carried placards with various inscriptions, chanting solidarity songs and condemned the surge in the rate of kidnapping in the state in the recent time.
