NiMet Warns Of Thunderstorms, Moderate Rains In Parts Of Nigeria


The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted a mix of sunshine and cloudiness across the country from Monday, to Wednesday.

According to the agency’s weather outlook released in Abuja, sunny skies with patches of clouds are expected over the northern region on Monday morning.

However, isolated thunderstorms and moderate rains are anticipated later in the day across parts of Taraba, Adamawa, Kaduna, and Bauchi States.

NiMet also projected cloudy skies with spells of sunshine for the central region, with chances of morning thunderstorms in Niger, Benue, and Kogi States.

“For the central region, cloudy skies with spells of sunshine are expected with prospects of morning thunderstorms and moderate rains over parts of Niger, Benue, Plateau, and Kogi States,” NiMet said.

“Later in the day, isolated thunderstorms with moderate rains are anticipated over the FCT, Niger, Kogi, Kwara, and Nasarawa States.”

In the southern region, NiMet forecasted cloudy conditions with morning rains in parts of Ogun, Ondo, Imo, Ebonyi, and Abia States, followed by isolated thunderstorms later in the day.

The agency also predicted similar weather patterns for Tuesday and Wednesday, with sunny skies and light rains in parts of Kaduna, Taraba, and Nasarawa States.

NiMet advised the public to take precautions during rainfall periods. “People should drive carefully under the rain, fasten loose objects, and avoid sheltering under trees to prevent accidents,” the agency warned.

“Farmers are also advised not to apply fertilizers or pesticides immediately before rainfall to prevent nutrient leaching.”

The agency further urged airline operators to obtain updated flight weather reports for safe planning and operations.
