The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast a mix of sunshine, cloudiness, and thunderstorms across different parts of the country between Monday and Wednesday.
In its weather outlook released in Abuja, the agency predicted “sunny skies with patches of clouds” over the northern region on Monday, with isolated thunderstorms and light rains expected in Taraba and southern Kebbi during the morning hours.
Later in the day, moderate rainfall and thunderstorms are anticipated in Taraba, Adamawa, Kaduna, Borno, Bauchi, Gombe, Kebbi, and southern Sokoto states.
For the central region, NiMet projected cloudy skies with sunshine spells, alongside morning thunderstorms in Niger, Benue, Plateau, and Kogi. Thunderstorms with moderate rains are also expected later in the day over the FCT, Kwara, Nasarawa, Kogi, and Niger states.
In the south, a cloudy atmosphere is forecast with light morning rains in Ogun, Ondo, Ekiti, Imo, Ebonyi, and Abia, while thunderstorms with moderate rainfall will dominate most states later in the day.
NiMet predicted sunny skies with patches of clouds in the North during Tuesday morning hours, with thunderstorms and moderate rains later in Kaduna, Taraba, Bauchi, southern Kano, southern Jigawa, and Adamawa.
The central region will experience cloudy weather, with morning rains in Nasarawa, Kwara, Kogi, the FCT, Niger, and Benue, followed by thunderstorms in Nasarawa, Niger, Kogi, and the FCT later in the day.
For the southern states, cloudy conditions are expected in the morning with rains in Ogun, Ondo, Ebonyi, Lagos, Cross River, Rivers, Bayelsa, and Akwa Ibom, while isolated thunderstorms are likely in Imo, Abia, Ekiti, Osun, Oyo, Cross River, Rivers, and Akwa Ibom later.
On Wednesday, NiMet projected sunny skies with patches of clouds in the North, alongside morning rains in Taraba and later thunderstorms in Kaduna, Adamawa, and Taraba.
The central region will be partly cloudy with morning rains in Niger, Kwara, and Benue, and thunderstorms expected in Kogi, Benue, Niger, Nasarawa, and the FCT in the evening.
In the southern region, thunderstorms with light rains are likely in Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, and Bayelsa in the morning, followed by widespread thunderstorms with moderate rainfall later in the day.
The agency urged Nigerians to take precautions during the rainy spells.
“Drive under the rain with caution, ensure that loose objects are fastened to avoid collision and disconnect electrical appliances from sockets,” the statement read.
It also advised the public to avoid sheltering under tall trees, while farmers were cautioned against applying fertiliser or pesticides immediately before rainfall to prevent nutrient leaching.
Airline operators were further urged to obtain “airport-specific weather reports (flight documentation) from NiMet for effective planning in their operations.”
