Nile Varsity VC: We’re Building Innovators, Not Job Seekers

The Vice-Chancellor of Nile University of Nigeria, Prof. Dilli Dogo, has said that the university is committed to producing innovators to drive rapid national development by positioning.

Dogo stated this Thursday on the second day of the university’s 13th Convocation Ceremony for postgraduate students.

He said the institution is positioning itself as a hub for innovation, enterprise creation, and workforce readiness.

Dogo added that Nile University is preparing its graduates not just for employment, but to build businesses, shape industries, and tackle Nigeria’s unemployment challenge.

He said, “At Nile University, our programmes are designed to fuse academic knowledge with real-world skills. We are committed to producing graduates who are resilient, innovative, and capable of driving economic growth.”

He, however, highlighted the university’s investments in specialised laboratories, incubation hubs and industry partnerships that allow students to test ideas, build prototypes and launch ventures before graduation.

According to him, a major example is the French Embassy’s donation of a state-of-the-art fabrication laboratory, which has already trained personnel from 14 Nigerian universities.

He added that France further strengthened its partnership by donating a mini-factory that converts plastic waste into finished and semi-finished products, a facility he described as a model for sustainability and youth empowerment.

Dogo said, “When fully operational, Nigerians will begin to see Made-in-Nile University products on the streets.”

He added that the initiative is inspiring students to embrace entrepreneurship and develop practical solutions to societal problems.

Congratulating the graduating students, the VC urged them to use their training to make a meaningful impact, stressing that the future workforce will be defined by innovation and adaptability.

He also welcomed dignitaries to the ceremony, noting the university’s ongoing transformation and growing national profile.

The VC further lauded the institution’s Chancellor, Alhaji (Dr.) Abubakar El-Kanemi (Shehu of Borno), for his steadfast support and the Pro-Chancellor, Mr. John Vermaaten, for working tirelessly to attract sustained investment into the university.

Among the university’s recent achievements, he cited the establishment of a top-tier business school, the development of a world-class medical simulation centre, and new partnerships with multinational firms offering paid internships and employment pathways to students.

He paid tribute to academic staff for their dedication and thanked parents for their trust.

He emphasised Nile University’s diversity, with students drawn from all 36 states and the FCT, and reiterated its commitment to maintaining high standards in teaching, infrastructure, and research.

The VC also acknowledged regulators, government agencies, royal fathers, diplomats, and the media for their continued support.

He added that the National Universities Commission (NUC) recently commended the institution’s education standards.

Pro-Chancellor John Vermaatan urged the graduands to uphold the university’s values and serve as ambassadors of excellence in their professions and communities.
