‘Nigeria’s biggest mistake of this century’ – APC chieftain Adamu Garba reveals

A former presidential aspirant of the All Progressives
Congress, APC, Adamu Garba, has pointed out what he described as Nigeria’s
biggest mistake in the first quarter of this century.

Garba said Nigeria’s inability to join the BRICS at the
right time was the country’s biggest mistake of the century.

In a statement he signed, Adamu said, “The biggest mistake
Nigeria commitment in the first quarter of this century is not joining the
BRICS at the right time.

“Now we have collected so much Western Loans and monies,
aligned our policies to Western interest, yet they have started targeting our
government with bad press with a clearly targeted rejection campaigns against
Nigeria.

“Do you know that by January 2026, Europe will execute the
ban on Cocoa export from Nigeria, purportedly for the crime of ‘deforestation’?

“This is in addition to their efforts to repatriate hardened
criminals from their country’s prisons to be integrated into our society,
society already mired with terrorist, criminals, drug dealers, cattle rustlers,
etc. So tell me, what does that even mean?

“They encouraged the neoliberal economic policies of
successive administrations yet continuously turn back to accuse Nigeria of
massive economic failures.

“Now they changed their visa policies against us.

“Where on earth will another country declare adherents of
other country’s political parties as terrorist organizations, yet such country
still claims to be a champion of global democracy? Yes, indeed Canada did it to
Nigeria. They declared APC and PDP members as terrorist.

“Due to our indecisions and illusion induced fear, we have
lost the trust of most BRICS countries, and it seems that we are also fast
losing our Western alliance. Despite everything, where are we headed? To the
mud, I guess so.

“The older generations of Nigerian Leaders failed to realize
that the nostalgic Powerful West is no longer what it used to be.

“The entire Europe is not more that the vassal of the United
State, at the mercy of the white house for their survival. Yes, they used to be
our colonial masters, now they are being colonized by the U.S.

“We like to wrap ourselves in the comfort of being the
biggest and the best country in Africa. But we fail to understand that our
aggregate value could only be substantiated when we are present where we are
needed, not where we are treated as slaver’s bay.

“As we present ourselves on the international stage, we
appear less valuable every day. A credit to our lack of genuine commitment to
our independence and our sovereignty.

“We must redefine our future by taking our destinies into
our hands, we must reorganize this country’s foreign policy agenda to reflect
our strength, value and contribution to global goods, not just chasing which
party could win the 2027 elections.

“Nigeria will be here long after much of the purported
strategies of 2027 and 2031 etc are permanently gone. But their impact will
vanish and scatter like a pack of cards if their only mission is winning
elections and not planning for the good of the future of Nigeria.

“I am, in all honesty, so worried that while we grow, we
don’t develop, and worse again, we are fast losing the little potential value
we parade to the World.

“To redeem ourselves, we must accept the fact that we are
full members of the global south, and we should fuse ourselves with the global
south alliance, all comprehensively, including by leveraging on networks such
as BRICS and SCO.”
