Nigerian youth leaders applaud Musa’s nomination as defence minister

The Coalition of Nigerian Youth Leaders (CONYL), a leading umbrella body of youth groups across the six geopolitical zones, has congratulated General Christopher Gwabin Musa (rtd) on his nomination as Nigeria’s new Minister of Defence by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In a statement released on Wednesday by its president, Goodluck Ibem, CONYL praised President Tinubu for selecting a “tested and trusted” military leader with over three decades of service to the nation. The coalition highlighted General Musa’s experience as former Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), his leadership in counter-terrorism operations, and his deep understanding of Nigeria’s security landscape as key reasons for endorsing the appointment.

The group described the nomination as an encouraging signal to Nigerian youths, emphasising that “competence, integrity, and patriotic service are being rewarded.”

The group expressed confidence that General Musa’s tenure would bring strategic reforms, enhanced professionalism, and strengthened national security.

CONYL further called on the Senate to expedite the confirmation of General Musa, stating that the decision reflects a “people-centered” approach that resonates with the aspirations of Nigerians.

CONYL, equally reiterated support for General Musa and optimism about his impact on national security.
