1. Some aggrieved youths in Benue State burnt down the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Sankara, headquarters of Ukum Local Government Area, on Wednesday. National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, confirmed this in a statement.

2. A Federal High Court, Abuja, on Wednesday, ordered the closure of two companies linked to the alleged 9.6 billion dollars Process and Industrial Development (P&ID) Ltd scandal. The two companies are Trinity Biotech Nigeria Limited and Resorts Express Concept Nigeria Ltd linked to the fleeing Briton, Mr James Nolan.

3. The Senate on Wednesday asked the federal government to further expand the ‘renewed hope legacy road infrastructure projects’ in the country to include the North-East region. It specifically asked the ministry of works to include the Calabar-Makurdi-Jalingo-Yola-Maiduguri Highway, which will integrate the North-East into the legacy infrastructure road projects in the country.

4. Lagos State Commissioner for Environment, Tokunbo Wahab, on Wednesday, vowed that many structures obstructing the free flow of rain water will be removed. He said those structures would be removed “irrespective of who or highly placed the owners are.”

5. A former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara on Wednesday said what he received as allowance while in office was N25m contrary to public perception that National Assembly members collect humongous salaries and allowances. Dogara also said that his salary as Speaker was not up to N400,000.

6. Customs yesterday impounded another cache of arms and other military items illegally imported into the country from Turkiye through the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. Fifty-five pieces of unassembled Jojef Magnum (Tomahawk) semi-automatic shotgun and other military and para-military hardware and accoutrement were discovered neatly packed and concealed inside other items in a container.

7. The Nigeria Labour Congress, the Trade Union Congress and the Organised Private Sector, on Wednesday, faulted the latest hike in the electricity tariff payable by customers in the Band A Category. On Wednesday, some distribution companies announced an upward review of their tariffs for Band A from N206.80 per kilowatt-hour to N209.50/kWh.

8. Bandits have killed the eldest son of a judge of the Kaduna State Customary Court, identified as Janet Galadima, while demanding N300m ransom to free the judge and her three other children still being held. The Chief Executive Officer of the House of Justice, Gloria Ballason stated this in a statement on Wednesday.

9. The Rivers State Police Command said its men arrested the commander of a vigilante group identified as Felix Nwaobakata, with two human skulls and other parts at his hideout in Omoku in the Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of the state.

10. Vehicular movement was hampered and commuters were stranded on Wednesday as students of the University of Benin blocked the Benin/Ore Highway in protest over a power outage in the institution’s campuses in Ugbowo and Ekhewan. The management of the institution was said to have expressed dismay over the upward review of its monthly electricity bill from N80m to N280m.
