Tolu Obamuroh, a Nigerian lawyer, has been promoted to
partner at White & Case LLP, one of the world’s leading international law
firms, headquartered in New York, United States.
The appointment takes effect on January 1, 2026, according
to a statement issued by the firm on Thursday.
He was promoted alongside 44 other lawyers across the firm’s
global offices.
Obamuroh, who will serve as a partner in the firm’s
international arbitration practice in Paris, France, is one of only three
lawyers globally elevated to partnership within that practice area this year.
He is also the only one based in Paris.
Reacting to the news, President Bola Tinubu congratulated
Obamuroh on his promotion, describing it as a “reflection of Nigerian
competence, resilience, and global excellence.”
In a statement issued on Friday by Bayo Onanuga, his special
adviser on information and strategy, Tinubu said Obamuroh’s success “represents
the best of the country’s new generation of professionals who continue to
distinguish themselves worldwide”.
The president added that the lawyer’s rise “stands as a
powerful symbol of the Renewed Hope vision—a Nigeria whose citizens lead and
excel across disciplines, defined by merit, integrity, and global impact”.
“Tolu has built an exceptional career representing
sovereigns and major corporations in high-value, cross-border disputes across
the energy and infrastructure sectors,” he said.
“Under the supervision of the Honourable Attorney General of
the Federation and Minister of Justice, Tolu continues to play a key role as a
trusted adviser to the Government of Nigeria in several international matters.”
Tinubu urged young Nigerians to draw inspiration from
Obamuroh’s journey, noting that it demonstrates how dedication and discipline
can propel them to global leadership in their chosen fields.
