Nigerian Girls Outshine Japan, Canada, and Spain to Claim Global Tech Grand Prize

Two Nigerian girls, Akachukwu Blessed Nwachukwu and Ifunanya Gabriella Okoye, both 10 years old from Port Harcourt, Rivers State, have put Nigeria on the global technology map by winning the 2025 Technovation Global Summit (Beginner Division).

The duo triumphed with their AI-powered app, Stay Woke, designed to combat drowsy and distracted driving using facial recognition and voice interaction to detect fatigue and issue real-time alerts.

Competing as Team Appsolute, the young innovators outperformed strong contenders from Japan, Spain, Canada, and Peru to claim the world title at the competition’s finale.

Technovation, the world’s leading tech entrepreneurship program for girls aged 8-18, saw over 33,000 participants from 117 countries this year, with 11,000 completing the program and more than 3,200 tech solutions developed.

Their mentor, Somkenechukwu Mamah, founder of Code Ambassadors Academy, hailed the victory as a milestone for African innovation.

“This win shows that innovation transcends age and borders. Akachukwu and Ifunanya’s resilience, creativity, and courage prove that Nigerian and African youth can excel globally,” he said.

Trained at Code Ambassadors Academy—a STEM-accredited platform that has taught coding, robotics, AI, and design to over 7,000 Nigerian children—the girls attributed their success to Mamah’s guidance and their parents’ support.

Team Appsolute’s achievement is celebrated as an inspiration for girls worldwide aspiring to revolutionize technology.
