The Nigerian Army 8 Division Headquarters has organised an operational planning cadre for the year 2025 to equip officers and warrant officers with the tools for operational planning and problem-solving.

The cadre was held in Sokoto on Monday with the theme, *“Authentic Leadership at All Levels of Command: A Prerequisite for Enhanced Operational Effectiveness,”* drawing participants from different security agencies in the state, including the Air Force, Police, Department of State Services, and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps.

In his remarks, the General Officer Commanding the 8 Division (GOC), Major General I.A. Ajose, said the event is the first major activity of the Nigerian Army training calendar for 2025, bringing together participants from across the units of the 8 Division.

He said the operational planning cadre will provide commanders with the required leadership skills, enabling them to perform their tasks optimally.

According to the GOC, good leadership is essential in the conduct of military operations. He added that improving leadership skills in the Nigerian Army, especially among junior commanders, is one of the Chief of Army Staff’s (COAS) training objectives for this year.

“The cadre, therefore, provides an opportunity for participants to refine their leadership and planning skills through interactive sessions, practical exercises, and shared experiences.”

Ajose said the army’s operations no longer exist in isolation and require collaboration across multiple domains and partners, especially in a joint environment where coordination between different services and agencies is crucial.

“As commanders, we must be able to synchronise our efforts, share intelligence, and make informed decisions in real-time.”

He said the initiative is a significant step towards strengthening inter-agency cooperation and fostering a unified approach to security operations.
