IBADAN – Nigerian Army in its efforts to ensure proficiency of soldiers in weapon handling as well refresh soldiers’ skills as professionals announced the commencement of the Shooting Range Classification Exercise for students of Exercise Shinning Star VIII.
The exercise, according to a press statement signed by the Acting Deputy Director Army Public Relations 2 Division Nigerian Army Lieutenant Colonel Polycarp Okoye will be holding at the 2 Division Nigerian Army Headquarters Ibadan between 8 – 12 September, 2025.
A copy of the statement made available to journalists in Ibadan, the Capital City of Oyo state on Monday further noted that, “the Range Classification Exercise will be coming up at the Major General OF Azinta Shooting Range in Adekunle Fajuyi Cantonment, Ibadan.
The statement stated as this;
“Headquarters (HQ) 2 Division Training School in Adekunle Fajuyi Cantonment, Ibadan, will be conducting Range Classification Exercise for students of EXERCISE SHINING STAR VIII at Major General OF Azinta Shooting Range in Adekunle Fajuyi Cantonment, Ibadan, from 8 – 12 September, 2025.
“Accordingly, the students will be making use of the Range general area for firing of life ammunition in line with their training requirement. The exercise is to mark the end of training activities for student soldiers of EXERCISE SHINING STAR VIII.
“The Shooting exercise is intended to train and refresh soldiers’ skills as professionals, thereby enhancing their proficiency in weapon handling, in order to achieve good results during military operations.
“Additionally, the exercise equally helps to ascertain the level of troops’ training and preparedness for battle and other assigned military duties.
“In view of the above, all families within Adekunle Fajuyi Cantonment, and those situated around it, are please informed not to panic on hearing sounds of gun shots during the period.
“Similarly, farmers, hunters, and general users of the Range area, are please advised to avoid the area throughout the period,” the statement concluded.
