Nigerian Airline Operators Hail Tinubu, Edun for Suspending 4% Levy on Imports

The Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, for the suspension of the 4% Free on Board (FOB) levy on imports.

In a communiqué issued and signed by AON President Alhaji Dr. Abdulmunaf Yunusa Sarina and Vice President Barr. Allen Onyema, on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, AON described the suspension as a “bold and thoughtful intervention” that demonstrates the President’s commitment to fostering a business-friendly environment, safeguarding the aviation sector, and promoting sustainable national growth.

The association warned that the levy, if implemented, would have severely increased operating costs for airlines already facing multiple economic challenges. By halting it, the government has, according to AON, prevented job losses, reduced inflationary pressures, and kept Nigeria competitive in the global market.

The communiqué also praised Mr. Edun’s “exemplary leadership as a listening Minister,” noting his responsiveness to industry concerns and patriotism in carrying out the President’s mandate with fairness.

“AON reaffirms its commitment to working closely with the government to strengthen the aviation industry and contribute to the realization of President Tinubu’s vision for economic growth and national development,” the statement concluded.
