Nigeria will overcome current hardships — Akpabio

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has called on Nigerians to stay resilient and patient as the nation navigates the economic turbulence triggered by President Bola Tinubu’s sweeping reforms.

Speaking at a public engagement on Tuesday, Akpabio acknowledged the widespread struggles caused by policies such as fuel subsidy removal and rising inflation but framed them as essential steps toward a stronger, more sustainable economy.

Addressing concerns over soaring living costs and economic strain, Akpabio reassured citizens that Nigeria is far from a failed state.

“Nigeria is not finished. We are only passing through a phase of renewal,” he declared, emphasizing that the current sacrifices are laying the groundwork for long-term prosperity.

“The sacrifices being made today will yield sustainable development and better opportunities for all.”

Akpabio’s remarks come at a time when many Nigerians are grappling with the ripple effects of the administration’s reforms, including skyrocketing prices for fuel, food, and essential goods.

The removal of fuel subsidies, coupled with currency adjustments, has fueled inflation, squeezing household budgets and sparking public discontent.

Yet, the Senate President maintained that these measures are critical to resetting an economy long plagued by structural inefficiencies.

Urging unity and hope, Akpabio highlighted ongoing government efforts to mitigate the hardship.

“Measures are being implemented to cushion the effects and restore economic stability,” he said, though he did not specify new initiatives.

He appealed to Nigerians to maintain faith in the Tinubu administration, assuring them that the reforms, while painful, are designed to deliver lasting benefits.
