Nigeria is among several other countries expected to experience total moon eclipse on Sunday evening.
The event will happen from the early evening up until the late hours of Sunday, September 7, 2025.
During a total eclipse of the moon, also referred to as lunar eclipse, the earth completely blocks direct sunlight from reaching the moon, while the only light reflected from the lunar surface would be refracted by the earth’s atmosphere.

The event is expected to last for approximately 82 minutes, which will be visible in regions including Africa, Asia, Australia, and parts of Europe.
However, countries such as Spain and Norway will experience a partial eclipse.
But in Nigeria, the entire spectacle can be viewed from the moment the moon enters the earth’s shadow until it re-emerges.
Other African countries expected to witness the eclipse are Togo, Cameroon, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Benin, Ghana, Chad, Niger, and São Tomé and Príncipe.
According to experts, unlike solar eclipses, lunar eclipses are safe to view without any eye protection or special precautions as they appear dimmer than the full moon.
