The Nigerian military has announced plans to establish a world-class Armed Forces Museum in Abuja, aimed at immortalizing the country’s military history and honoring fallen heroes.
The announcement was made on Wednesday, during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Defence Headquarters and Empower 54 Africa Initiative.
The proposed museum will occupy about 10 acres in the Federal Capital Territory and is expected to be completed by the first quarter of 2026.

It will preserve artefacts, records, and historical narratives of Nigeria’s military service while generating jobs for veterans and civilians.
The museum will also create sustainable revenue through tourism and corporate partnerships and provide immersive educational experiences for schools nationwide.
Speaking at the signing, Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, described the project as a legacy initiative.
“Museums are vital custodians of national memory. We want a museum that restores Nigeria to a global standard,” Musa said.
“It will serve as a pride to our service members and families, and ensures that the sacrifices of our heroes are never forgotten,” he added.
Rear Admiral Olusanya Bankole, Chief of Defence Civil-Military Relations, explained that a multidisciplinary steering committee, including military representatives and heritage experts, has been formed to ensure the project meets international standards.
“After extensive research and due diligence, we selected Empower 54 as our strategic partner.
“Their proven project management capabilities and experience in building sustainable partnerships are key to delivering a world-class facility within the specified timelines,” Bankole added.
He further emphasized: “The museum, to be known as the Armed Forces Museum, reflects the unity of all military services under one national identity.
“We aim to create a space where citizens, especially students, can learn about the courage, dedication, and sacrifices of our armed forces.”
General Musa also stated, “This museum is not only about preserving history but inspiring future generations to uphold the values of service, discipline, and patriotism that our heroes embodied.”
