Nigeria and Qatar have deepened their partnership to tackle illicit drug trafficking through a symbolic exchange of ratification instruments between Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), Chairman of Nigeria’s National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), and Qatar’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Ali Bin Ghanem Al-Hajri.
The ceremony, held at the Qatar Embassy in Abuja, follows a Memorandum of Understanding signed on March 3, 2024, by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Qatar’s Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, in Doha, focusing on curbing the illegal trade in narcotics, psychotropic substances, and their precursors.
Marwa appealed for Qatar’s support in providing rehabilitation facilities for individuals battling drug addiction, emphasizing the need for comprehensive solutions.
Ambassador Al-Hajri highlighted the strengthened bilateral ties, noting a surge in travel between the two nations as evidence of improved relations. This collaboration marks a significant step in addressing drug-related challenges through international cooperation.
