The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has appointed Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Dolapo Badmos as its permanent representative to the United Nations Headquarters in New York, marking a significant milestone in the force’s international engagement.
The announcement, made on September 6, 2025, underscores the NPF’s commitment to strengthening global partnerships on law enforcement, peacekeeping, and human rights.
ACP Badmos, a trailblazing officer with over two decades of service, brings a wealth of experience to the role.
Born Ifedolapo Opeyemi Badmos in Ekiti State, she joined the NPF on August 15, 2002, as an Assistant Superintendent of Police after training at the Police Academy in Wudil, Kano.
Holding a degree in Accounting from the Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti, and a Master’s in Public Administration from the University of Abuja, she is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Public Sector Management.
Her career highlights include serving as Divisional Traffic Officer in Alakuko, Lagos; Divisional Police Officer at Isokoko Division in Agege; and Aide-de-Camp to Nigeria’s number four citizen.
Badmos rose to prominence as the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for Lagos State Command in 2016 and later for Zone 2, where her charismatic communication style and social media savvy earned her the moniker “Instagram Police Officer.”
She was promoted to Chief Superintendent in 2018 and to ACP in January 2024, becoming the first woman in several high-profile roles, including Provost of the NPF in 2019, overseeing disciplinary actions against errant officers.
Despite facing controversies, such as a 2020 reprimand amid #EndSARS protests—which was clarified as not a demotion—she has been lauded for her advocacy on gender-based violence, human rights, and gender equality, including training as a certified responder by the UK DFID and Turkish Government.
In her new position, ACP Badmos will represent the NPF at the UN, focusing on international policing standards, counter-terrorism cooperation, and contributions to UN peacekeeping missions.
This appointment aligns with Nigeria’s active role in UN operations, where Nigerian officers have previously served in missions like UNMIL in Liberia and UNMIT in Timor-Leste.
“This is a proud moment for the NPF and a testament to ACP Badmos’s dedication and pioneering spirit,” said a statement from the Force Public Relations Officer.
“She will advocate for Nigeria’s perspectives on global security challenges while fostering stronger ties with international bodies.”
