She added that it also demands a government accountable to its people, a citizenry committed to nation-building, and a leadership rooted in service and integrity.

Akpoti-Uduaghan emphasized that Independence Day should serve as a sober reminder of the sacrifices made by the country’s founding fathers and mothers.

She called on Nigerians to harness the nation’s vast potential for the benefit of future generations.

“Independence Day is more than a date etched in history. It is a reminder of the sacrifices of our founding fathers and mothers…

“Today, we must honour their memory not with words alone, but by carrying forward their vision of a nation that truly works for all,” she said.

The senator urged Nigerians to remain committed to justice, equity, and inclusivity, stressing that 65 years after independence, the challenge remains to build a nation that leaves no citizen behind.

She concluded that only through accountable leadership and collective responsibility can Nigeria live up to the dreams of its heroes.
