The Niger State Police Command has apprehended two suspected electricity transformer thieves in the Minna region of the state.
The operatives also took into custody two suspected motorcycle thieves in Suleja Local Government Area.
The transformer thieves, 21-year-old Idris Garba and 28-year-old Saifullahi Alkasim—both from Alagbado, Minna—were caught while attempting to dismantle a transformer.

Two other suspects managed to escape. The arrested suspects were promptly transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and prosecution.
In a separate incident, two suspects, Ilyasu Hassan and Ibrahim Mohammed, were reportedly arrested in Suleja Local Government Area while attempting to sell a suspected stolen Bajaj motorcycle.
The police operatives quickly responded, apprehended the suspects, and recovered the stolen motorcycle. The thieves later admitted that the motorcycle had been stolen from Jere along the Kaduna-Abuja Expressway. The motorcycle thieves have since been formally arraigned in court for prosecution.
The Niger State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the arrests on Thursday, stating that the police actions align with the state Commissioner of Police, CP Adamu Elleman’s, commitment to eliminating all forms of criminal activity.
He told Arewa PUNCH: “On 01/9/2025 at about 6am, two suspected electric transformer vandals – Idris Garba 21-year-old and Saifullahi Alkasim 28-year-old, both of Alagbado, Minna, were arrested by the Police operatives of ‘B’ Div Minna at a transformer spot. While two others escaped. The suspects arrested have been transferred to SCID Minna for further investigation and prosecution.
“Earlier on 28/8/2025 at about 10am, based on intelligence received that two suspects – Ilyasu Hassan and Ibrahim Mohammed were sighted during an attempt to sell a suspected stolen Bajaj motorcycle within Suleja, Police operatives attached to the ‘B’ Div Suleja moved to the scene, arrested the suspects and recovered the stolen motorcycle.
“During interrogation, the suspects confessed that the motorcycle was stolen from Jere along Kaduna-Abuja Expressway. The suspects were arraigned in the court for prosecution.
“It is in line with the commitment of the Commissioner of Police, Niger State Command CP Adamu Abdullahi Elleman to ensure the eradication of thuggery, phone snatching and other forms of robberies in the state,” Abiodun said.
