Niger: Police arrest 3 attempting to buy 6-month old foetus for rituals

The police in Niger state have arrested three people who conspired to buy a six-month pregnancy for N30 million for ritual purposes. 

The suspects were reported to have lured the pregnant woman to an area in Minna, Niger state capital, where they had planned to remove the six months old foetus for an offer of N30 million.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Niger state Police Command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed this in a statement issued at the weekend. 

He said, “On 17th February, 2025 around 4pm, based on a report of conspiracy and attempt to cause miscarriage received, three suspects were arrested. They are Martha Andrew, James Luka and Johnson John all of Minna”.

According to the PPRO, the suspects were arrested as they conspired among themselves with an attempt to take a pregnant victim from Rafin-Yashi area of Minna to one ‘Gbege’ presently at large. 

“They lured the victim with a promise to pay her thirty million naira to remove her six-month-old pregnancy for ritual purposes. The three suspects were tracked and arrested around a hotel along Eastern Bye-Pass, Minna by Police operatives of the SCID, Minna,” he said.

He explained that during interrogation, they confessed to the crime, adding that efforts to arrest the said Gbege are ongoing.
