3 hours ago 33

The Alliance of Sahel States (AES), comprising Niger, Mali, and Burkina Faso, has officially unveiled its federation flag, marking a significant step in its regional integration efforts.

The move comes as the AES accelerates its push for self-reliance following its recent withdrawal from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

In a bid to deepen cooperation, the bloc has introduced a joint AES passport to facilitate the free movement of people and goods across member states.

Plans are also underway to establish a single currency aimed at strengthening economic integration and trade within the region.

On the security front, the AES has set up a joint task force of 5,000 troops to combat terrorism and enhance regional stability.

This initiative underscores the bloc’s commitment to addressing shared security threats through coordinated military efforts.

The AES’s integration drive is rooted in the goal of fostering sovereignty and economic independence.

By pooling resources and expertise, the member states aim to tackle common challenges and lay the foundation for a more stable and prosperous Sahel region.
