Davinson Sanchez

Newcastle make contact with player who left Tottenham last summer

Newcastle United could make a move for former Tottenham defender Davinson Sanchez.

The Colombian centre-back left Spurs last year to join Galatasaray after spending six seasons with the North London club following his move from Ajax.

The defender decided to leave Tottenham after he was told he was not in new manager Ange Postecoglou’s future plans.

The Magpies appear to have taken notice of his Galatasaray performances, according to Damga Gazetesi.

Newcastle have noticed the defender’s performances

The centre-back has impressed in his spell in Turkey, after becoming one of the most important players for the club.

Newcastle are not alone in showing interest in the services of the talented defender. Italian champions Napoli are also keen to sign him at the end of the season.

In addition to Newcastle and Napoli, a few more unidentified English and Italian teams are also interested in signing the South American.

The report states that the Premier League club have initiated contact with the Turkish club to sign Sanchez.

Davinson Sanchez to Newcastle United?

Sánchez’s current deal with Galatasaray expires in 2027, and the club plan to keep him.

Damga Gazetesi assert that their goal is to amass as much money as they can if they are unable to.

Newcastle’s interest in the defender is obvious after they suffered serious injuries to two of their key players.

Newcastle face an injury crisis

Defensive duo Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles have both suffered long term injuries and they are expected to be out for months.

Due to ACL injuries, Botman and Lascelles will be out for “six to nine” months.

The only first-team regulars who can play in the position are Fabian Schar and Dan Burn, giving the Magpies little alternatives at the back.

Prior to Botman and Lascelles’ injuries, it was believed that Newcastle planned to sign a centre-back during the summer transfer window. However, it’s now a more urgent issue.
