NDLEA, Police Arrest 57 Suspects In Kano Drug Crackdown


The Kano State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), in collaboration with the Police, has arrested 57 suspects for drug-related offenses in a series of joint operations across the state.

The arrests were disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday, by the Public Relations Officer of the NDLEA in Kano, Mr. Sadiq Muhammad-Maigatari.

He explained that the raids, conducted on September 24, 25, and 27, formed part of the activities of the Kano State Joint Task Force for Peace Restoration and Youth Rehabilitation.

The operation, under the leadership of Dr. Yusuf Ibrahim-Kofar Mata, targeted drug hotspots in Kofar Ruwa, Tashar Rami, Rijiyar Lemo, Kurna, Mil Tara, Zage, Dorayi Karshen Waya, Dawanau, and Filin Idi.

According to the statement, operatives recovered assorted illicit substances and several locally made weapons during the exercise.

“Preliminary investigations are ongoing, and all suspects found culpable will face prosecution,” Muhammad-Maigatari added.

Dr. Ibrahim-Kofar Mata reaffirmed the task force’s commitment, saying: “Our resolve to eradicate drug abuse and associated thuggery in Kano remains unshakeable.

“We will continue to work tirelessly to create a safer, healthier community for all.”

Similarly, the NDLEA Commander in Kano, Mr. Abubakar Idris-Ahmad, commended Governor Abba Kabir-Yusuf for his support in the ongoing campaign.

“The state government’s commitment to tackling substance abuse and thuggery has greatly boosted our rehabilitation and enforcement efforts,” he stated.

He further praised the officers of the NDLEA and Police for their professionalism, urging community leaders and civil society groups to rally behind the fight against drugs and insecurity in the state.
