NCC Boosts Consumer Protection With Data-DrivenApproach

2 hours ago 21

LAGOS – The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), is ramping up its efforts to protect telecommunications consumers by enhancing its analytical capabilities and leveraging data for proactive decision-making.

According to the Executive Vice Chairman of NCC, Dr. Aminu Maida, this year, the NCC is focusing on using data to anticipate and address consumer issues more effectively.

“This year, we are enhancing our analytical capacity to better protect telecommunications consumers by leveraging data for proactive decision-making,” he said.

A key component of this strategy is the NCC’s new partnership with Innovations for Poverty Action (IPA). Together, they are establishing an Embedded Consumer Lab. This lab will analyze consumer complaint trends, anticipate emerging issues in the telecoms sector, and ultimately inform policy decisions.

The NCC recognises that effective use of data is crucial for strengthening consumer protection frameworks. By analysing data on complaints and usage patterns, the commission aims to improve the resolution process and identify systemic issues that need addressing.

This data-driven approach will also inform evidence-based regulatory initiatives, leading to a better overall consumer experience. The NCC’s goal is to move beyond reactive responses to consumer complaints and adopt a more proactive stance that anticipates and mitigates potential problems before they escalate.
