The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, and the Director-General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Capt. Chris Najomo, have emphasised the need for technological adaptation and deeper economic regulation to enhance the safety of Nigeria’s aviation industry.
They spoke at the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority’s (NCAA) 25th Anniversary symposium titled “Human Capital Development: Upskilling the Next Generation of Aviators”, held in Abuja on Saturday.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, Keyamo highlighted that while the NCAA has made significant strides over the past 25 years, sustaining these achievements requires a deliberate focus on safety planning, stakeholder collaboration, and the adoption of innovative practices, particularly in training and retraining.
He noted that the NCAA’s Silver Jubilee celebration serves as a reminder that aviation safety is fundamental to the sector’s growth and development. He stressed that safety is not a one-time achievement but a continuous process requiring adaptation and improvement, given advancements in technology, rising passenger demand, and increasing globalisation.
Similarly, Capt. Chris Najomo, NCAA DG, stated that while the Authority celebrates its accomplishments, it must also embrace new technologies, enhance operational efficiencies, and foster partnerships to elevate Nigeria’s aviation industry.
*”In propelling NCAA to aspirational heights and in line with this symposium, we are faithfully guided by the Honourable Minister’s Five-Point Agenda and, ultimately, Mr. President’s Renewed Hope Agenda, both of which emphasise infrastructure development, safety enhancement, economic growth, and job creation.
“As we chart the course for the next 25 years and beyond, let us reaffirm our commitment to upholding the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and global best practices,”* he said.
