LAGOS – Mr. Festus Keyamo, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development has reiterated his commitment to supporting initiatives that would further elevate the country’s aviation sector.
He also said that the ministry would ensure that infrastructure and transportation are enhanced as enablers of growth in line with the Five Point Agenda of President Bola Tinubu’s presidential priorities.
Keyamo gave the assurance over the weekend in Abuja in his speech at the 25th anniversary celebration of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).
Keyamo pointed out that the aviation sector remained a pillar of national development, facilitating trade, tourism, investment, and cultural exchange.
He maintained that while the sector was yet to realise its true potential in terms of contribution to Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), he canvassed for the renewal of commitment by everyone to ensuring a more progressive, sustainable, inclusive, innovative and prosperous aviation industry.
Keyamo explained that in a bid for the sector to contribute meaningfully to the GDP, the ministry had continually adopted and integrated emerging technologies, enhance infrastructure and invested in human capital development to keep the skies safer, secure and air transportation services cohesive and efficient.
The minister emphasised that over the past 25 years, the industry had witnessed remarkable transformations, ranging from enhanced supervisory measures and policies formulation, safety and security oversight, robust legislative and regulatory frameworks.
Others are advancements in air traffic management, development, expansion and certification of airports, accurate meteorological services, timely accident investigations, manpower development and the growth of indigenous airlines.
He added: “These achievements have not come without challenges. However, with the efforts of past administrations and the total support of the present administration under the leadership of His Excellency, President Bola Tinubu, through the Renewed Hope Agenda, the Honourable Minister’s Five Focus Areas, aviation agencies, regional and international civil aviation bodies, industry stakeholders, private sectors and aviation professionals, we have overcome challenges and reached new heights.
“Tonight, affords us the opportunity to recognise and honour some of those visionaries, past and present, who have contributed tirelessly to building an aviation industry that meets and exceeds global standards.”
Keyamo also expressed gratitude to all those who had contributed to navigating turbulence and the success of the NCAA over the past 25 years.
The highlight of the event was the presentation of awards to some key stakeholders who have helped to develop the NCAA in the past 25 years.
The minister hoped that this award would serve as a constant reminder and motivation to others to continue to strive for greater achievements in the interest of the overall public.
